I just noticed that my olaarowolo WhatsApp Channel has 65 followers. Interestingly, 65 is also the age at which I plan to retire. Maybe my WhatsApp Channel is already giving me a gentle reminder! 😊
But seriously, I don't see retirement as the end of productivity. I actually believe there may be even more for me to do in retirement than during my active working years.
That is why much of what I am building, learning and investing my time in now is preparing me for the things I want to enjoy doing from home when I retire.
Start Planning Early
So, here is the reminder: start planning for retirement long before retirement arrives.
If you are yet to begin your working life, start thinking about it. If you are already in your active years, you should be thinking about when and how you want to retire. And if you are already well into your career, it is still not too late.
Don't just work towards retirement. Build the life you want to retire into.
Productivity Beyond Work
Retirement is not the end of meaningful contribution. It is often the beginning of a different kind of productivity.
When you no longer have the structure of a traditional job, you have the freedom to pursue projects that truly matter to you. You can invest in learning new skills, building platforms, mentoring others, or simply enjoying the fruits of your years of labour.
The key is to start preparing now. The investments you make today in knowledge, skills, relationships and personal projects will determine the quality of your retirement tomorrow.
Building Now for Later
Much of what I am currently building, learning and investing my time in is intentional preparation for the things I want to enjoy doing from home when I retire.
Whether it is digital platforms, creative projects, or simply cultivating a community through channels like my WhatsApp, these are all investments in a future where productivity looks different but remains deeply fulfilling.
